You can put a fresh coat of white paint on a picket fence to make it look better, but that doesn’t mean the boards aren’t rotting. In a similar vein, a bright, white smile may give the illusion of good oral health, but it’s important to remember that whiter teeth don’t necessarily mean healthier teeth. Tooth color is primarily a cosmetic concern, while healthy teeth and gums depend on what’s happening beneath the surface.
